Deputy presidential debate: Rigathi Gachagua to face off with Martha Karua

Deputy presidential debate will be held on Tuesday, July 19, at the Catholic University for Eastern Africa (CUEA).  

The Presidential Debates Secretariat, in a communiqué, on Wednesday, July 13 stated that the event will proceed in two tiers 

“The first tier will feature Deputy Presidential candidates whose popularity ratings, based on three recent opinion polls, stand below 5%, while the second tier will involve candidates who have polled above 5% in the same opinion survey,” the statement read in part.

Martha Karua of Zimio coalition will face off with Rigathi Gachagua of Kenya Kwanza while Ruth Mutua of Agano party will meet Justin Wamae of Roots Party.

The first tier, which will be moderated by Linda Alela of TV47 and Jacob Kioria of KBC, will run from 6:00 pm and end at 7:30 pm.

The second tier, which will be under the stewardship of KTN’s Sophia Wanuna and NTV’s James Smart, will air at 8:00 pm and end at 9:30 pm.

Trevor Ombija of Citizen TV will moderate panel discussions on matters arising from the two-tier conversation.

The event will be broadcast and streamed by all media houses in Kenya.
