Detectives respond on reports of Al-Shabaab planned attacks in the capital Nairobi

Detectives from DCI ( Directorate of Criminal Investigations) refute reports warning of an imminent Al-Shabaab attack in Nairobi

Detectives from DCI ( Directorate of Criminal Investigations) refute reports warning of an imminent Al-Shabaab attack in Nairobi.

On Sunday, August 27, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) flagged a viral post alerting the public of an impending attack by Al-Shabaab militants in Nairobi City.

DCI reassured Kenyans in a public announcement that the warning was bogus and that there was no immediate danger to the nation.

“This report doing rounds in sections of the media is fake news,” the DCI stated.

According to the letter that was allegedly sent by Peter Nthigah, the regional coordinator for DCI in Nairobi, the terrorists intended to carry out an attack between the end of August and the beginning of September of this year.

The radicals, according to the report, were also allegedly targeting Western diplomats and military in Kenya as well as the locations they visited in the city.

“The armed attackers, believed to be already in Nairobi, plan to detonate suicide vests reinforced with sporadic shooting in crowded places and targeted areas,” the now flagged letter read in part.

As such, security officers were asked to enhance vigilance and screening to forestall likely attacks by the militia.

Detectives flagged the report on the same day Defence Cabinet Security briefed the nation on the government’s plan to combat terror.

The CS said that the government had reactivated intelligence and enhanced surveillance systems to detect and neutralize any threats while speaking in Faza Island in Lamu East.

“I put on stern notice members of the outlawed terrorist groups and their extremist collaborators that their days are numbered,” the CS warned.

Coincidentally, the now-flagged letter follows terror warnings from the US, Canada, and the UK.

The Western nations had warned its citizens to exercise caution while visiting North Eastern counties, Lamu, and select areas within Nairobi.
