The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists, and Dentists Union (KMPDU) has issued a warning to 11 counties over a possible strike due to delays in July and August salaries without any explanation.

The counties on notice include Lamu, Kakamega, Taita Taveta, Garissa, Meru, Isiolo, Marsabit, Kirinyaga, Samburu, Nakuru, and Mandera.

KMPDU has also issued a 14-day strike notice for doctors working in Nandi and Mombasa counties for failing to pay March and April salaries that were withheld while the doctors were on strike, despite a court order for their release.

KMPDU Secretary General Dr. Davji Atellah decried the outcome of the return-to-work formula they signed with both the county and the national government.

He stated that they were supposed to start receiving the basic salary arrears in July for seven years, but the national government has yet to take action.

“The money ought to have been paid in July and August but nothing yet. The counties have written a letter that they are yet to receive money from national government,” said Dr. Atellah during a press address on Saturday.

“We have been patient but our patience must not be confused for comfort. We are going to sue the government for contempt and we are ready to go back and demand for these monies.“
