Ruto fires at Uhuru for allegedly using his role as a chairman of the Azimio coalition and as president to interfere with the elections.

Deputy President William Ruto has cautioned President Uhuru Kenyatta not to allow the credibility of the August General Election to be harmed by his position as the head of the Azimio la Umoja governing council.

On Sunday, July 24, during the Kenya Kwanza campaign event in Rift Valley, Ruto urged Uhuru to treat all Kenyans equally regardless of his position in the Azimio la Umoja alliance.

Ruto reminded the president that he has two weeks as president and should prepare to retire honorably.

“You (Uhuru) have two weeks as the president of Kenya and it is your constitutional duty to ensure we have a free and fair election.

“We know you are also the chairman of Azimio, please don’t confuse your duties as the chair of Azimio, and your duties as the president of Kenya,” Ruto said.

“As the President of Kenya, you have to serve all Kenyans equally, you can support your project as the chairman of Azimio but you must always remember that you have a duty to the 50 million people of Kenya to guarantee their security and the security of the elections so that Kenyans can make their choices in a free fair and democratic manner,” he said.

“Please we want to ask you do not allow the security agencies, people who have with a sinister motive to intimidate or blackmail the IEBC or to undermine the election of August 9,” Ruto added.

Ruto’s statement comes amid accusations between IEBC and DCI on the three Venezuelans arrested at JKIA carrying confidential and sensitive election material.

According to the DCI statement released on Sunday, 24 the trio were in the country on invitation by Abdullahi Abdi Mohamed, not IEBC.
