DP Kindiki responds to Kalonzo after alliance snub

Kindiki has broken his silence in response to Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka's remarks distancing himself from any form of political collaboration with Kenya's Kwanza administration
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has broken his silence in response to Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s remarks distancing himself from any form of political collaboration with Kenya’s Kwanza administration.
In a statement posted on his official X account on Sunday, Kindiki acknowledged Kalonzo’s decision to decline his invitation to work with the government, saying he respected it—but issued a stern warning against what he called “unprovoked falsehoods.”
“I hear my big brother Kalonzo has said he doesn’t wish to work with me politically. That is fine with me,” Kindiki wrote. “But if he continues with his falsehoods unprovoked, I will happily tackle him head on.”
Despite the strong undertones, Kindiki maintained a tone of deference toward the Wiper leader, saying he regards Kalonzo as a respected senior whom he would not publicly attack.
“For the unkind things he has said about me, I won’t answer him back publicly—not because I can’t, but because I never do public duels with people I respect,” Kindiki stated. “For now, Kalonzo will remain the good big brother I have known for decades.”
Kindiki’s remarks come after Kalonzo’s sharp rebuke during a church service in Ngong’ on Sunday, in which the former Vice President flatly rejected the idea of joining what he called a “blood-based government.”
He accused the Deputy President of being complicit in recent state crackdowns, particularly the fatal Gen Z protests.
“You should have apologised to Kenyans because you were the Interior Minister when Gen Zs were killed,” Kalonzo said. “Then also apologize for [Albert] Ojwang’s killing because you are the Deputy President.”

Kalonzo also ruled out working with President William Ruto’s administration, reiterating his opposition stance and plans to run for president in 2027.
“Stop using my name. Even Ruto knows that if there is a tough opponent who will face him in the next election, it is Kalonzo Musyoka,” he said. “I have no problem with Kindiki. My issue is with Ruto, who has misled this country.”
He also reaffirmed his commitment to working with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to form a united opposition to the current regime.
The clash comes just a week after Kindiki appeared to reach out to Kalonzo at an economic empowerment meeting in Kitui.
The Deputy President had praised Kalonzo as a noble and like-minded leader who had been misled by those pushing ethnic divisions.
“I have seen people staying close to him to influence him in politics he does not identify with,” Kindiki said on Thursday. “He is respectable and a lawyer just like me.”
