Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has said victims injured in a road accident involving a vehicle in his motorcade on Sunday are receiving treatment.

The incident occurred along the Kisumu–Busia Highway near the Otonglo area as the CS was heading to Kisumu International Airport after attending a function in Siaya County.

Speaking after the incident in Nairobi on Sunday night during an Iftar dinner with members of the Kenya Association of Muslim Medical Professionals (KAMMP), Duale said he briefly delayed his journey to ensure the injured were assisted and taken to the hospital.

“Sorry for keeping you waiting; we are on our way from the function to Kisumu airport. There was a small accident. All patients belong to me; I had to tell my team to help the patients and ensure they are in the hospital. They are recovering well,” he said.

The CS added that the injured victims were rushed to hospital and are recovering well following the crash.

According to a member of Duale’s security team, the accident involved one of the security vehicles accompanying the Cabinet Secretary.

The officer confirmed that there were no casualties reported from Duale’s team following the incident.

Duale’s team was coming from Health PS Ouma Oluga’s thanksgiving ceremony in Rarieda, Siaya County.

The event brought together leaders, residents, and supporters to celebrate Oluga’s journey in public service and his recent appointment in government.

In a message shared during the occasion, Oluga expressed gratitude for what he described as a challenging yet fulfilling journey guided by faith.

The Thanksgiving ceremony was marked by prayers, speeches, and celebrations as leaders lauded Oluga’s contributions to the health sector and his commitment to serving Kenyans.

President William Ruto, among other leaders, was present at the ceremony.

“Presided over by President William Ruto, we joined leaders and the people of Rarieda for the thanksgiving ceremony of the Principal Secretary for Medical Services Ouma Oluga, held at Okela Primary School in Siaya County,” Duale said in a statement.

“I wish Oluga well as we continue to collectively steer reforms in the health sector and advance the realization of Universal Health Coverage (UHC).”
