Duale dares Gideon Moi ahead of Baringo senatorial by-election

Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has issued a strong challenge to Gideon Moi, daring him to face him in the upcoming Baringo County by-elections
Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has issued a strong challenge to Gideon Moi, daring him to face him in the upcoming Baringo County by-elections.
Speaking in Uasin Gishu on Friday, August 1, 2025, Duale called on Gideon Moi to stop what he termed unnecessary actions and prove his political strength directly at the ballot.
He criticised Moi for relying solely on the reputation of his late father, former President Daniel arap Moi, claiming that his political credentials were lacking beyond the family name.
“Mwambie Gideon Moi awache hio upuuzi, Gideon Moi ile kitu ya maana ako nayo pekee, amebeba jina ya Mzee Moi. Hana maana ingine; ukiangalia CV yake, ile kitu ako nayo ni he is the son of Mzee Moi, a very good old man, na alioppose Ruto akiwa deputy. Watu wa Baringo, kama mko hapa pelekeni huyo kijana amepotea njia,” Duale said.
Duale reminded residents of Baringo that Moi had opposed President William Ruto when he was serving as deputy president and urged them to reject him if he failed to align with the region’s current leadership.
He further insisted that the by-elections in Baringo, which follow the vacancy left by Senator Cheptumo, would be the perfect arena for a political showdown. He emphasised that it was time for leaders to meet their opponents directly and demonstrate their support among the people.

“Na umwambie tukutane kwa senate si iko by-elections Baringo ya marehemu Cheptumo, tutapimana nguvu huko sisi na Gideon ajipange. Sisi tumejipanga saa ingine; wanaume lazima waonane ana kwa ana,” he added.
The upcoming by-election in Baringo County, Kenya, is for the senatorial seat vacated following the death of Senator William Kipkorir Cheptumo on February 16, 2025.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), which was reconstituted with a new chairperson and commissioners sworn in on July 12, 2025, is tasked with organising this by-election, among others.
No specific date for the Baringo by-election has been confirmed, but the IEBC is under pressure to schedule it promptly, as some by-elections have already surpassed the 90-day constitutional deadline.
