Education CS Machogu responds to critics over abnormal 2022 KCSE results terming the news as propaganda.

Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has refuted claims that the 2022 KCSE tests were leaked to benefit schools in Kisii and Nyamira counties.

According to critics, certain schools in the counties of Kisii and Nyamira recorded aberrant grades that did not correspond to their actual growth over time.

Mr. Machogu, however, urged the detractors to cease disseminating “propaganda” that claimed the institutions were being unfairly targeted.

The Education CS wondered why schools from Kisii and Nyamira are being singled out yet other counties had equally posted impressive performances.

According to Machogu, he would have published a thorough breakdown of findings that demonstrate how other schools fared if it weren’t against the law to rank schools.

“Let us stop this propaganda,” the CS said.

“Propaganda will not benefit anyone.”

The CS said the ministry enforced a mechanism that secured the integrity of the 2022 KCSE tests beyond reproach.

“Schools from Kisii are being unfairly singled out yet some counties have far better grades,” Machogu said.

Regarding the performance of Nyambaria National School in Nyamira, Machogu praised the principal Boaz Owino saying he has a solid track record.

“If you look at his history, you will appreciate him because wherever he goes, there is a remarkable improvement,” Machogu told the Nation earlier.

“Let us wait for the 2023 exams and ensure our children work hard,” he said.

In the 2022 KCSE tests, critics say, some schools posted huge deviations and recorded ‘abnormal’ improvement curves.

Experts and politicians have called for a probe into the 2022 KCSE results alleging that the sudden surge of A grades indicates widespread malpractices.

On Saturday, Former Mukurweini MP Kabando wa Kabando claimed that the 2022 KCSE results should be disbanded.

“Total disgrace! Many schools’ curves in the region statistically don’t add up,” Kabando said.
