Eight people (4 women and children) burnt beyond recognition in a bandit attack

Eight people have been burnt beyond recognition following a night raid by armed bandits in Napeitom village, Turkana East constituency on Sunday, July 31.

Rift Valley Regional Commander Mohammed Maalim confirmed the tragic incident, adding that the matter was being investigated.

The eight were burnt to ashes after their houses were attacked by bandits.

According to reports, among those burnt include four children and four women.

Photos showed the silhouettes of the deceased individuals with reports indicating that the attack occurred on the night of Sunday, July 31.

Survivors from the horrific incident are also yet to surface.

Maalim noted that investigations into the tragic incident have been launched across the expansive Turkana County.

Area Chief Kaptan Ekiru said a minor was abducted by the suspected rustlers who torched their homesteads.

“The suspected cattle rustlers from Tiaty in Baringo County raided our village in Kapedo/Napeitom ward in Turkana on Sunday night and burnt eight people in their homesteads,” Ekiru said.

The attack occurred despite the state’s ongoing implementation of security measures in the conflict-torn region in response to a recurring escalation of bandit attacks and cattle robberies.

Meanwhile, Rukia Abubakar, Turkana Kenya Red Cross coordinator, said they have dispatched their team for emergency response.
