Police and prison officers in Wundanyi, Taita Taveta County, have initiated an extensive manhunt for eight remandees who escaped from Wundanyi Prison on Saturday night.
The escapees have been identified as Patrick Karisa, Erickson Mwachofi, Alex Makexi, Edward Maighasho, Robert Muchugwa, Mwangemi Mwanyange, Joseph Kalama, and Samuel Onyango.
According to authorities, the prisoners, aged between 18 and 39, were facing charges ranging from rape, defilement, and sexual assault to housebreaking.

They reportedly escaped through the rooftop of Ward 3 by cutting through the iron sheets at approximately 11:30 p.m.
Law enforcement agencies have appealed to the public to share any information that may help in locating the fugitives.
Authorities have assured the public that every effort is being made to recapture the prisoners and urged anyone with credible information to report it to the nearest police station.
