In a statement released on Wednesday, August 6, KAA confirmed that airport emergency services were already on the ground managing the situation on the airport’s airside.

“Airport emergency services are responding to an incident involving an aircraft at Moi Intl. Airport. First responders are managing the situation,” the statement read. “We will provide further details as soon as they are confirmed. Please monitor this account for official updates.”

A follow-up update from KAA assured the public that the incident did not disrupt airport operations.

“Status Update: Emergency response teams are actively managing a situation on the airside at Moi International Airport. Airport operations remain normal and unaffected,” KAA stated.

As of now, details about the nature of the incident or whether there were any injuries have not been released.

KAA has advised the public to follow its official communication channels for any further developments.

The incident, which had initially sparked panic and speculation among the public, was swiftly clarified by the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) in an official statement.

“We would like to confirm that the emergency response at Moi International Airport was part of a full-scale EMERGENCY DRILL,” KAA stated. “The exercise was part of our commitment to maintaining the highest safety and security standards at our airports.”

Global aviation authorities regularly conduct full-scale emergency simulations such as this one in compliance with international standards.

These drills are designed to test coordination, responsiveness, and effectiveness of the various emergency response teams, including fire and rescue, medical, airport security, and local law enforcement.
