Former Chief Justice David Maraga has demanded the arrest of DIG Eliud Lagat over the death of Albert Ojwang.
Former Chief Justice David Maraga now wants president William Ruto to take action following the heinous murder of teacher Albert Ojwang’, saying the buck stops with him as the head of government.
Maraga said the president ought to have directed agencies responsible to direct and facilitate the arrest of police officers implicated in the murder of slain Ojwang’.
Maraga noted that ideally, the security bosses at the centre of Ojwang’s mysterious death led by DIG Eliud Lagat should have stepped aside immediately.
“There is prima facie evidence that Mr. Eliud Lagat – directly or indirectly, by himself or through his accomplices – is implicated in the illegal arrest, torture, strangulation and eventual murder of the late Albert Ojwang’. Yet, Mr. Lagat still remains in office. It is now time to immediately arrest and institute prosecutions against Mr. Lagat,” Maraga stated.

Maraga who spoke while presenting a petition at the police headquarters in Nairobi demanded for immediate action before June 25th. By then, the former CJ expects progress into investigations into all extra judicial torture and deaths since last year.
Maraga, who was the chair of the police task force reform, wondered why the National Police Service (NPS) officers are not paying attention to human rights violations that were part of policy reforms.
“President Ruto and the security sector leadership have failed to take any action to bring to book all those security officers involved in the abduction, torture and killings of so many young Kenyans since Ruto took office and particularly in 2024 and 2025. Again, this shows the level of callousness and disregard Ruto and his leadership have for the life and suffering of Kenyans,” Maraga added.
He warned that if no action is taken which will see Lagat and Amin out of offices by 25th June, then together with others they will not hesitate to take to the streets to demand justice for the victims of police killings in the country.
