Family seeks answers after senior NPR officer disappears following alleged abduction
The family of a senior National Police Reservist (NPR) officer in Isiolo County is demanding answers from the government after he was allegedly abducted last week.
According to the family of one Malele Abdi Hassan, the officer went missing on Saturday, December 20 after three masked men allegedly took him. Since then, there have been no reports about his whereabouts.
According to Yessir, Adan Mohamud, the Ajuran Clan Chairman, Malele was abducted while he was riding his motorcycle back home at around 5:30pm.
Family and friends allege that his disappearance was likely coordinated by security agencies, whom they have accused of being reluctant to take action and launch a thorough probe into his disappearance.
Malele has been serving as a senior NPR officer in charge of the Burat location in Isiolo, according to the family.
The family is positive that the security officer was never involved in unlawful businesses before his abduction, which would have attracted any threat.

“He was never involved in any unlawful businesses or acts that could have led him to be abducted; that was just a random arrest, according to us,” a relative of the officer said.
Immediately after his family reported his disappearance, they claimed that some security agencies went to Malele’s place to collect his gun without any explanation.
The family has called on security agencies to step up and conduct a thorough investigation into their son’s whereabouts to achieve closure.
“The abduction of Malele is likely to have been conducted by the government because after reporting his disappearance, they came immediately to collect his gun; they did not care about him,” another one said.
According to Mohamud, the Ajuran clan chairman, since the incident, the family and other residents of the area have been living with fear and uncertainty, on what exactly will happen next.
“After the incident was reported at Isiolo Police Station and the DCI, police officers came to his house and collected his official firearm,” said Yessir. “This raises serious questions. The government must be aware of what is happening,” Ajuran said.
