Farouk is a co-president - says Gachagua after Ruto accused him of fighting his assistant
Farouk Kibet is a co-president, according to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
This is after much speculation over the role of President William Ruto’s Personal Assistant.
While speaking to KTN on Monday, April 7, Gachagua lifted the lid on what is one of the worst-kept secrets within President Ruto’s government.
According to Gachagua, Farouk practically runs the government. The impeached former second-in-command revealed that Ruto has been using Farouk to send messages within the government, and ‘everybody reports to him.’
Last Monday, a day before launching his week-long tour of Mt Kenya, President Ruto accused Gachagua of picking fights with his juniors in his government, including the president’s Personal Assistant, Farouk Kibet, and blogger Dennis Itumbi.
“He became a perennial complainant, accusing everyone of undermining him, even junior people like blogger Itumbi, Farouk, and MP Ndindi Nyoro. I told him, let’s stop these petty cases and work for the people,” said President Ruto.
However, Gachagua has claimed this is far from the truth. According to Gachagua, his quarrels with Farouk stemmed from the latter’s bid to control the operations at his deputy president’s office at the Harambee Annex.
“He says I was fighting Farouk Kibet. Farouk Kibet is not a small man; he is a co-president in this country, and he runs the government,” Gachagua said. This is despite Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro remarking that even Gachagua required Farouk’s approval to meet with Ruto.
Adding, “Everybody reports to him; the IG of Police, Head of Public Service and Cabinet Ministers. William Ruto issues instructions to Cabinet Ministers through Farouk Kibet. Ministers tremble at his very sight.”

According to him, Farouk wanted to issue instructions to him. Gachagua alleged that Farouk was making arrangements for his meetings, something he was open to until he unearthed alleged corruption schemes.
“There is no way I would have allowed Farouk Kibet to give instructions to me,” Gachagua asserted. He alleged that he took his complaints to Ruto, insisting that Farouk would not make any appointments for him or schedule any of his meetings until the issues of corruption were addressed.
“I told the President. I am elected. I am not going to take instructions from your Personal Assistant. And I am not going to push corruption in my office,” he asserted. Gachagua claimed that he raised the matter with Farouk, who told him off.
Gachagua’s expose of Farouk’s relationship with Ruto did not end there. He recalled one time.
Similarly, President Ruto dismissed the claims of the alleged corruption. To be clear, neither Ruto nor Farouk has responded to the claims.
Farouk is a long-serving personal assistant and close confidant of Ruto. Their association began in 1997 during Ruto’s campaign for the Eldoret North parliamentary seat.
