The contentious Finance Bill, 2024 has sailed through the Second Reading in the National Assembly after 204 MPs voted to pass it.

The Finance Bill 2024 has sailed through the second reading despite the heavy opposition from Kenyans. 

Speaker Moses Wetangula, in the Thursday evening voting session, announced that a total of 204 MPs voted in favor of the bill while 115 voted against it.

Speaker Wetangula further announced that no legislator abstained from the voting.

“The results on the division on the second reading of Finance Bill 2024 are as follows, ayes 204, nays 115, abstentions nil. The ayes have it,” National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula announced.

He further said that the Bill will now come up again before the entire House on Tuesday next week.

The bill will now move to the third reading where the National Assembly will go into the committee of the whole house and go through each clause proposed in the bill before voting.
