Five family members killed with several others in road accident along the Eldoret-Malaba highway.
Five people died on the spot on Sunday following a fatal accident involving a trailer, a tractor and a car in the Murgus area along the Eldoret-Malaba highway, Kakamega County.
The trailer driver is said to have been speeding from Eldoret when he hit the tractor’s rear before losing direction and colliding with the oncoming Toyota Probox.
The five family members in the car were returning home after a family member’s wedding in Busia.
They died on the spot while two survived with injuries, police said.
The two survivors have since been transferred to the Eldoret Hospital for specialized medical treatment.
Confirming the incident, Lugari Constituency OCPD Julius Melly said that the bodies were taken to Webuye Hospital morgue, while the injured are receiving treatment at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret.

“We have arrested the driver of the oil tanker and are pursuing the occupants of the tractor who are at large,” Meli added.
The accident occurred at the Murungi Area along the busy stretch at 4 am in the wee hours of Sunday morning.
Still on Sunday, another head-on collision accident was reported along the Mwea-Embu Road at Kariba where a boda boda operator lost his life.
Witnesses reported the motorbike hit the driver’s side of the matatu as the rider tried to make a right turn. Unfortunately, the boda boda operator lost his life on the spot.
According to statistics by the National Traffic and Safety Authority (NTSA), about 3,000 people lose their lives in road accidents annually with a majority of the accidents taking place on weekends.
