CCTV footage has unravelled the final moments of Standard Group Media journalist Amos Harun Maina before he collapsed and died at a bar in Mirema, Nairobi, on November 16, this year.

In the footage obtained by KTN, Maina was seen drinking with a group of bar attendants before he suddenly collapsed and died on the spot while still seated.

A post-mortem conducted on the body of the deceased revealed that Maina reportedly consumed a poisonous substance, with detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) conducting a probe into the incident.

The CCTV footage showed Maina entering the bar at around 4:18 pm on the fateful Sunday of November 16 and heading to a table where a lady and a man were seated.

He shook the hands of both the man and the woman before heading to another table. At 4:30 pm, he then headed to another table and began taking a drink with other revellers.

Moments later, at around 4.50 pm, a lady joined him, and the two held a brief conversation before Maina left the table when he sat down to take his drink.

The footage then showed Harun playing pool for a while, and at 5.05 pm, he returned to his table and continued sipping his drink and then again went back to the pool area.

At 5:8 pm, he was joined by a lady seated in the club. At 5:23 p.m., he left two ladies he had been talking to for about five minutes.

Again, at 7:47 p.m., Amos ordered another drink, which was brought to his table with the lady who served him the drink joining him later. A second lady joins them.

At 7:56 p.m., both ladies stepped away, leaving Harun alone. Suddenly, Amos, who was jovial during the day, suddenly dozed off at the table and remained in that state for almost an hour until 9 pm.

At 9.22 pm, Harun’s head collapses backwards; it is believed that it was the moment he passed away. CCTV captures the bar tender attempting to lay him on the table.

Amos’ brother entered the bar at around 10:49 pm, and attempted to wake him up, only to learn that Harun had passed away. DCI detectives are now expected to release the toxicology report next week.
