Foreign leaders congratulate President-elect Ruto
Foreign leaders congratulate President-elect William Ruto after being announced as the winner of the presidential election.
Deputy President William Ruto was declared President-Elect by the IEBC after sailing past the ‘50 percent plus one’ constitutional threshold that requires a winner in a presidential election to garner 50 percent of votes cast.
Ruto garnered 7,176,141 (50.49 percent) votes beating his closest challenger, Azimio’s Raila Odinga, who managed 6,942,930 votes (48.85 percent).
After the IEBC announcement, several foreign leaders have already congratulated William Ruto after winning the August presidential election.
Foreign leaders congratulate Ruto
Zimbabwe President Emmerson Mnangagwa is among foreign leaders who have congratulated President-elect William Ruto.
Taking to Twitter on Monday, Mnangagwa expressed confidence that Ruto will be a reputable leader.
“Congratulations to William Ruto on his election as the next President of Kenya,” he said in a tweet.
“I have no doubt he will serve his country, his people, and our continent with distinction,” Mnangagwa added.
Tanzanian president Samia Suluhu congratulated the people of Kenya on their peaceful general election and the subsequent announcement of WilliamsRuto as President-elect.
“I congratulate the people of Kenya on their peaceful general election and the subsequent announcement of Dr @WilliamsRuto as President-elect. We look forward to continuing working together with our brothers and sisters in Kenya to strengthen our historically close ties. Tuko pamoja”
South Africa President Cyril Ramaphosa also offered his congratulations to President-elect William Ruto on his win.

of the Republic of Kenya. A prosperous and united Kenya is an important prerequisite for and contributor to a prosperous and peaceful continent. We look forward to working with you in pursuit of #TheAfricaWeWant”
President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria in a statement issued on Monday by his spokesman, Femi Adesina, lauded the people of Kenya for the peaceful and transparent outcome of the elections.
President Buhari said Nigeria valued Kenya as a strategic partner in the fight against terrorism and violent extremism, buoyed by a long history of friendship, economic and trade ties, and effective collaboration through international organizations such as the African Union, the United Nations, and the Commonwealth.
New Somalia President Hassan Mohamud — through Villa Somalia, the Office of the President — congratulated Ruto in a tweet, saying, he looks forward to working with him towards stronger bilateral relations and closer cooperation.
Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed congratulated Ruto on his election as the fifth Kenyan president.
“My congratulations to William Ruto, on your election as the President of the Republic of Kenya. I wish you luck in your endeavors ahead,” he said.
Ahmed added, “We look forward to working closely with you on common bilateral and regional interests.”
