Margaret Wanjiru had attended a church service on Sunday, June 22, with her mother not knowing that that would be her last day alive. With the help of CCTV footage, the authorities were able to link the student to the murder of little Wanjiru.

She would later claim that dark powers pushed her to commit the heinous act on that fateful day.

The 17-year-old was arraigned in court, where a verdict was given, and she was found guilty of the murder charges pressed against her.

“I have heard her response to the facts presented by the prosecutor. I have found that she is guilty of the offence. We therefore record that she pleads guilty to the offence. She agrees with the narrative of the prosecutor, and she is convicted on her plea of guilt,” the judge said.

The judge stated that investigations are going to be carried out to determine if the teenager has ever been involved in any case before.

The court also instructed the probation officer to prepare a report concerning the accused. “Once the report has been issued, the court will determine the appropriate sentence for her.

The sentence will be issued on September 16,” the judge added. Prior to her being presented in court, the teenager had been in custody at the Kiugoine Police Station.

The clothes that the student had dressed in on the day she committed the crime, including grey trousers, a pink t-shirt and a red trench coat, were presented in court as exhibits. Was Nakuru form 4 girl mentally assessed?

The court was told that the minor had been taken to the Nakuru County Referral Hospital where a mental assessment was done on her to determine whether she was in her right state of mind when she carried out the crime.

“Dr. Erica Adagala confirmed that the accused is mentally fit and can stand trial. She does not demonstrate any psychiatric symptoms according to an assessment done on July 9, 2025. We would like to present this in court as evidence in the case.

The prosecution stated that a postmortem was carried out on Wanjiru on June 6, which showed that she died due to neck compression and irritation to the trachea.

“In short, this means that Wanjiku died as a result of being strangled to death,” the court was told.
