Form one student dies after two teachers allegedly beat him over cheating in a Physics exam in Nandi County.
The strange death of a form one pupil from Chemase Secondary School in Tinderet Sub County has been the subject of inquiries by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Nandi County.
After complaining of chest symptoms at the Chepsese health center, Kelvin Kiptanui was taken to the Nandi Hills sub-county hospital, where he died on Friday evening while receiving treatment.
The deceased, who was hardly two weeks old at the institution, is reported to have been assaulted by his teachers for making references in a Physics textbook during an afternoon Friday quiz.
The school principal told police that the deceased was allegedly beaten in turns by two teachers at the institution on claims that he was caught cheating in the mid-term examinations.
It is alleged that he was found cheating together with another student while doing a Physics examination between 0830hrs and 0930hrs.
Tinderet sub-county police commander Ali Jire said the matter was reported on Sunday by the mother of the deceased.

“It is a very complex incident because the school is yet to make a formal report with the police on the death and the circumstances surrounding the death,” Jire said.
Monica Cherobon, the mother of the deceased, said her son was well when he left home for school.
“He was rushed to the dispensary and was referred to Nandi-Hills hospital,” Cherobon said.
Following the incident, Nandi county commissioner Herman Shiambi has called for a thorough investigation into the incident.
The administrator asked the family of the deceased and the members of the public to remain calm and allow the investigating agencies to complete its work and assured them that justice will be done to them.
On Sunday evening, students in the school were restless, demanding more explanation from the administration over the death of their colleague. The school has since been closed indefinitely.
The deceased reported to Chemase secondary two weeks ago. He delayed reporting due to a lack of fees.
The body was transferred to Nandi-Hills hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem examination to establish the cause of death.
