Former Agriculture CS Peter Munya in Uhuru administration to lead Azimio protests in Mt Kenya region after announcing political comeback.

After going quiet for several months following Kenya Kwanza’s election, Peter Munya has ‘comeback’ to politics.

A close ally of Azimio leader Raila Odinga and Uhuru Kenyatta, the CS has recently taken a back seat in Azimio operations and was absent from the scene at last Friday’s Saba Saba protest.

However, Munya declared on Monday that he will lead three rallies on Wednesday: one in the morning in Meru town, one in the afternoon in Muthara market, and one in the evening in Maua town.

Raila called the rally so that his followers could keep up the pressure on President William Ruto’s administration over its failure to reduce taxes and living expenses.

“I will Preside over three Azimio Rallies on Wednesday 12th July 2023 In Meru County.1. Meru town-Morning 2. Muthara Mkt-Afternoon. 3. Maua Town-Afternoon. Agenda: 1. Unbearable high cost of Living. 2. Insecurity in the region. Come one Come all,” Munya stated.

In a new twist, Raila has adopted a new strategy by delegating Azimio leaders to lead protests in their own regions.

This is a shift from the previous arrangement where all Azimio leaders would converge in Nairobi to lead the protests.

The Azimio on Friday last week held a series of protests in various parts of the country that saw protestors engaging in running battles with the police.

The opposition coalition has called for the protests to continue on Wednesday.

However, Interior CS Kindiki dared Azimio to cause mayhem on Wednesday saying the government will deal with them with finality.

“Those extreme ideas that when you disagree with a political issue you cause mayhem, you hurt people, you close businesses, you close highways, you uproot facilities, that culture must stop and we are going to deal with you very firmly decisively and with finality, don’t try,” said Kindiki.
