Former Water and Sanitation CS Sicily Kariuki has insisted that she will vie for the Nyandarua governor’s seat in the 2027 elections.

Speaking while accompanying former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua at the 26th-anniversary celebrations of St Louis Igwamiti Parish in Ol Joro Orok Constituency, Nyandarua County, on Sunday, April 27, 2025, Sicily emphasised that this was not her first announcement regarding the bid and urged Nyandarua voters to rally behind her when the polls come.

“Do you still love me? Are we together? Yes, I will be running for the Nyandarua governor’s seat. That’s the one I want. And you all know it’s the one I want, and by God’s grace, we shall win it,” she affirmed.

Sicily suggested that she would likely contest under Gachagua’s party, which is set to be launched this May, lamenting that many politicians from Mount Kenya had struggled in past elections due to the absence of a party they could truly call their own.

She lavished praise on Gachagua, asserting that she would never abandon him, and called on all other politicians to get behind his political party once it is launched.

She further stated that the Mount Kenya region is currently beset with numerous challenges, all of which, she argued, stem from Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza government being in power. She insisted that, in order for history not to repeat itself, Mount Kenya must secure its own political party.

“We used to implement projects for you, but now we find ourselves in trouble. We must unite so that we can get onto Gachagua’s bus in 2027 and avoid the issues we are currently facing. As the father has reminded us, elections mean service to the people,” she said.

Moreover, Sicily lamented that Ruto’s government had failed to deliver any meaningful development in Mount Kenya since it took office, noting that even she had not witnessed any progress on stalled roads from the Uhuru era, despite Ruto’s rise to power.

She took a moment to praise Uhuru, pointing out that Mount Kenya saw significant development under his leadership and highlighted her own contributions, emphasising that the locals were well aware of her efforts in driving development projects in the region.

“I was in Uhuru’s government—the only government that truly brought you development. Now, I want to mention three things. Mheshimiwa Thuo, you have spoken about the connecting road from here to Sharagita.

Since I left government, that critical road has not been addressed. Ruto’s government took office, but I have not seen them take any decisive action, and the road remains stalled, along with the water projects.

And we all agree that Methu will be our senator forever,” she remarked.

In conclusion, Sicily also claimed that Ruto’s government is planning to pass a budget with an additional Ksh1 trillion and warned Ruto, reminding him that such a controversial move was precisely the reason behind the massive Gen Z protests in 2024.

She vowed that they would endure until 2027, when they would have the opportunity to send him packing, warning Ruto that his visit to Mount Kenya was not a sign of acceptance from the people.

According to her, the people of Mount Kenya, particularly those from Nyandarua, do not wish to be dragged through the mud or associated with bad reputations, and she affirmed that they would be at the forefront of voting Ruto out in 2027.

“The last point I want to make is about the budget that Ruto’s government wants to pass, which includes an additional one trillion—exactly the same addition that sparked the largest Gen Z protests in the country. We will endure through this, and I can’t understand why President Ruto thought it was a ‘rehearsal’ to come to Nyandarua. Let him know that we don’t like being tainted,” she concluded.
