Democracy for the Citizen Party (DCP) leaders have surfaced claims that the government blocked former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua from flying to Kisa East for a thanksgiving ceremony, forcing him to deliver his speech over the phone.

DCP party had organized a thanksgiving ceremony on December 5, 2025, to celebrate the victory of their candidate Aduda Okwiri who won the Kisa East Ward Member of County Assembly seat in the November 27, 2025, by-elections.

DCP leader Gachagua Gachagua was expected to preside over the event, but was unable to attend due to difficulties in chartering a flight to Kakamega, according to party officials led by deputy party leader Cleophas Malala.

“Gachagua had paid for his chopper, but they went to threaten the company that owns the chopper, saying that they [govt] will stop doing business with it,” Malala claimed.

Malala further alleged that Gachagua went ahead to book another helicopter, but the helicopter owners claimed that it had technical issues, forcing him to consider booking a fixed-wing plane to Kisumu Airport, but his efforts were allegedly futile.

These claims were confirmed by Gachagua when he addressed the Kisa East Ward residents on a phone call during the homecoming event.

“All the planes that I had booked were not allowed to let me use them, but it is OK,” Gachagua told the residents in his phone call address.

Kiambu County Senator Karungo Wa Thang’wa claimed that the government was behind Gachagua’s travel frustration.

Thang’wa further accused President Ruto of intimidating businessmen and dictating who they should do business with.

The DCP party leader has promised to visit Kisa East in 2026, saying that he will find a way to outsmart his political opponents in their attempt to block him from his political travels.

On Sunday, November 30, Gachagua attended another thanksgiving ceremony in Kariobangi North for DCP’s, David Warui, who won the MCA seat in the just-concluded by-elections.

Gachagua’s DCP party also won the Narok Town Ward by-election, where their candidate, Douglas Masikonde, defeated UDA’s Robert Kanyike with 6,007 votes to Kanyike’s 4,479.
