DP Rigathi Gachagua links former President Uhuru Kenyatta to the alleged resurgence of the outlawed Mungiki group in the Mt Kenya region

DP Rigathi Gachagua links former President Uhuru Kenyatta to the alleged resurgence of the outlawed Mungiki group in the Mt Kenya region.

The current alleged resurgence of Mungiki in the Mount Kenya region has been the talk of the town from most politicians.

Some politicians from the Kenya Kwanza side have alleged that the youths have been set up by some leaders against the government.

And now DP Gachagua has sustained claims of a resurgence of the outlawed Mungiki sect on former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Gachagua who spoke in Nakuru on Monday, May 29 warned that security agencies would deal firmly with the illegal sect and accused Uhuru of “placing young men in harm’s way”.

“You (Uhuru), what do you want in this country? You occupied the highest position in this country. What else do you want? You are among the richest men in this country,” Gachagua said.

Without elaborating, Gachagua claimed the retired president was setting up the Mungiki youth against the government.

“You (Uhuru) why are you setting up young men against the security apparatus? What political agenda do you want to achieve using other people’s children? Kindly give us a chance to empower these young men,” he added.

Speaking at the same event, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki said the government is prepared to put on check what they termed the resurgence of a dangerous and outlawed group.

“I want to tell the young people, please don’t go that route because the government will come for you and you know there is still a formula to deal with this Mungiki group,” said the second in command.

The recent arrest of former Mungiki leader, Hon Maina Njenga who is an Azimio la Umoja supporter has fuelled conflicts in the central Kenya region.

Meanwhile, the deputy president has been at loggerheads with the former head of state.

In most of his addresses, he rarely misses mentioning the name of the former president.
