DP Rigathi Gachagua pushing for Azimio leader Raila Odinga to retire from active politics.

Speaking in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County – where his convoy made a brief stop on its way to the final day of Devolution Conference 2023, Gachagua stated that Odinga’s name should be added to the register of elderly persons for government’s aid.

The DP claims that President William Ruto has put in place a sound system to ensure Raila’s peaceful transition once he eventually retires from active politics.

“President Ruto gave greenlights for persons over the age of 70 years to be registered to receive monthly stipends. I have ordered the PS to register Raila Odinga so that he can be receiving his Ksh2,000 per month and the rest,” Gachagua stated.

Gachagua also criticized Raila for criticizing US Ambassador Meg Whitman whom he asked to “keep her mouth shut” following her remarks on the credibility of the August 9 polls at the ongoing Devolution Conference.

In retaliation, Gachagua mocked Odinga’s comments, pointing out that he (Odinga) is only an ordinary person and that no one should be led to believe that he has the authority to remove even a single local administrator, let alone a whole envoy.

“We also need to be respectful to our development partners. you cannot speak in a public forum before national TV and say you have the capacity to recall an Ambassador of the United States accredited to this country by the American government; it is simply being mischievous,” the deputy president said.

“As a private citizen, how do you recall an Ambassador? You cannot even transfer an Assistant Chief to your local sub-location. It is part of the denial syndrome.”
