Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has admitted to being privy to reports of people referring to him as a son of the late President Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi.

Speaking during an interview session with Oga Obina on Friday, May 16, 2025, Gachagua brushed off the assertions as meant to demean him and being peddled by people keen on distracting him.

Gachagua stated that he is not bothered by such claims.

“People say many things, and you cannot stop them from saying whatever they want to say. People can say whatever they want,” Gachagua said while displaying a picture of his real father.

The former DP was given his first employment by Moi as a district officer upon his graduation from the Administration Police Institute in 1990.

The role marked the start of the politician’s checkered service in the public sector, serving first in the administration realm as a District Officer (DO). He maintains that his roles were purely earned owing to his aggressive personality.

“When you are in politics, people try to demean and bring you down, but not me. I’m never bothered by those things. I don’t answer back. I don’t get bothered with those claims and I’m not interested. If you listen to naysayers, you don’t get anywhere. I always focused and do not entertain distractions,” Gachagua added.

On his relationship with Moi, Gachagua revealed that he enjoyed a cordial friendship with the former president, whom he hailed as his mentor.

He acknowledged the former president invalauble role in shaping his career and the person he is today.

“He was a good old man, very fatherly. I used to visit him as a student leader and a district officer. He guided me to a great extent and mentored me into leadership. He was a great man and had an ear to listen. He loved young people and allowed me to serve in his government,” Gachagua stated.

Other than the late president, Gachagua also revealed working as a personal assistant to former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

“Uhuru is my friend and my brother. I respect him a lot and cherish his leadership. He is an elder and a senior citizen as a retired president. I do whatever I can do to support him when he’s attacked unnecessarily. I want him to be strong and healthy so that he is available to give advice to me and others who need it now. He knows a lot, and he is quite experienced,” he stated.
