Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has opened up about the impact of his dismissal from the government on his immediate family, particularly his wife, Pastor Dorcas Rigathi.

Speaking on Saturday afternoon in Nyeri County, Gachagua revealed that despite finding peace after his impeachment, he carries a huge regret that his wife is not able to help the boy child to the scale she used to.

He disclosed that during his time in office, Dorcas spearheaded a boychild initiative which focused on rehabilitating and protecting vulnerable young men battling depression and addictions.

According to Gachagua, who was addressing the congregation during his wife’s ordination as a reverend, Dorcas’ influence drastically reduced since his dismissal as the deputy president, negatively impacting her boychild support initiative.

“Our humiliating exit from the office has been very pleasant to us because we have moved on, and we are happier people. The only regret that I have is that we left the office is that Dorcas is not able to help as many boys as she would have wanted,” Gachagua said.

He added, “She is now not able to do very much as she would have wanted, but we support her as a family, and as we are here, we feel very disappointed.”

The former DP also expressed his disappointment over the government’s reluctance to curb the illicit alcohol menace, particularly in the Central Kenya region.

“We feel very disappointed that the work we have done to get rid of illicit brews and remove the boychild from the trenches failed. The illicit brew is back, and the boys are back to the trenches. We feel very sad,” Gachagua stated.

During his speech, the Democracy for the Citizens’ Party (DCP) leader showered his wife with praise, describing her as a dedicated, passionate servant of God.

In his emotional tribute during the wife’s ordination ceremony, Gachagua labelled Dorcas as a beacon of hope whose devotion to spreading the word of God has shaped not only their home but also the wider community.

He went ahead to praise his wife as the pillar of their home, further describing her as the glue that holds the family together.

He also expressed gratitude to his children for supporting their mother.

“She is a very great believer in family values, and she has put her family first, and we support her in her ministry. I want to thank my children for agreeing that we will always support Dorcas,” Gachagua said.
