DP Gachagua slams Raila for calling off protests while also criticizing Uhuru Kenyatta over his remarks after son’s house raid.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has slammed Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga after he called off the anti-government protests that were scheduled on Wednesday this week.

Speaking to Kenyans in Italy on Monday night, Gachagua said  said it was wrong for Raila to say he had postponed the protests yet there was no such thing.

Gachagua mocked Raila, claiming he said it to appease his supporters.

“I am told they have postponed, there is no postponement, you cannot postpone something that is not there. He is just trying to please his supporters,” said Gachagua.

Gachagua said that even though protests are allowed in the constitution, the government banned them after they turned violent.

“We had allowed these demonstrations to continue because the Constitution allows and also says that it must be peaceful and demonstrators unarmed…what we saw was chaos and the country was almost burning,” Gachagua explained.

In addition, Gachagua told Former President Uhuru Kenyatta the government will take no issue in his resolute to protect his family but his actions will not distract the government’s quest to protect all Kenyans.

“I have heard others say that their work is to protect their family and children and it’s fine. But who will protect the children of poor people? That’s what the President must do because they don’t have money to buy guns,” he said.

This is after Uhuru vowed to protect his family following the Friday night raid at the home of his son Jomo in Karen.

Uhuru has termed the raid a farce saying it was suspect claiming the security officials were out to fabricate charges against his eldest son.

Gachagua however defended the raid saying the government must protect all Kenyans saying the move was not aimed to intimidate anyone.

“If you can buy guns for your children to protect themselves that ok. What about those parents that can’t afford to buy guns for their children? The government must use their guns to protect their children,” Gachagua stated.
