Gachagua’s security fire gunshots as chaos erupts at PCEA Kasarani East Parish

Gunshots and chaos filled the air in Nairobi’s Kasarani estate after security officers associated with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua fired into the air to disperse hundreds of youths who had stormed the PCEA Kasarani East church.

According to reports, the security officers linked to the former DP acted after the youth stormed the church, allegedly demanding cash payments for them to attend the event.

The youth gained entry into the church and broke chairs used by the congregants during the service.

The goons were mainly dressed in military fatigues and combat gear, raising fears about their intention.

The standoff forced the organisers of the event to momentarily stop the service as some of the congregants were forced to run for safety following the standoff.

During the standoff, a vehicle belonging to Gachagua was stoned, with the windows shattered, according to images and videos.

The presiding bishop of the church condemned the incident, maintaining that it was an infringement on the freedom of worship.

”We have freedom of worship in Kenya, and the Constitution guarantees that you can visit any part of the country,” the Bishop stated.

However, during the incident, the former DP was seen seated, unbothered by the developments that were happening outside the main dias.

There was no visible presence of the National Police Service (NPS) during or after the fracas, with only the security detail attached to Rigathi Gachagua responding to the incident.

The agitated youth, determined, kept forging ahead while hurling objects and insults at the former Mathira MP’s security detail.

Meanwhile, NPS had yet to issue a statement following the fracas at the time of publishing this story.

Gachagua is expected to address the congregants later, with indications that he is likely to counter President William Ruto’s recent tour of the Mt Kenya region.

This is the second time the former second-in-command’s event is disrupted after he was temporarily blocked from leaving the ACK Cathedral in Nyeri town on March 23 by a group of agitated goons.

An unconfirmed number of people were also reportedly injured during the fracas.
