Gathoni Wamuchomba continues her attacks on President Ruto

Ginthunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba has continued her attacks on President William Ruto administration over doctor's strike

Ginthunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba has continued her attacks on President William Ruto administration over doctor’s strike.

Speaking on Monday on Spice FM, Wamuchomba who is also a UDA MP castigated Ruto for saying his government does not have the money to pay striking doctors, and that they should learn to ‘live within our means’.

She said whoever is advising the president over the issue is misleading him.

Wamuchomba said Kenya Kwanza government has all its priorities wrong, pointing at the affordable housing project as one of them.

“Is the president saying that those of us who cannot get to a nice private maternity facility should continue getting our babies on the floors of public hospitals? The form one transition this year has been the lowest at 90.14% compared to last when it was almost 100%. What is our priority? Is it affordable housing or is it our medication?” Wamuchomba quipped.

The lawmaker said something needs to be done in parliament because the situation is dire in public hospitals.

“President’s advisors who are telling him that the economy cannot afford and absorb the needs of our doctors are wrong. It’s not within our means to construct affordable houses when we cannot afford to take our loved ones to form one,” Wamuchomba added.

She claimed that Ruto’s administration has failed to provide basic education to learners.

Wamuchomba further said the Kenya Kwanza government has failed to submit money for capitation for schools.

This comes amid a biting doctors strike that has paralysed health services in public health facilities across the country.

Her statement comes after President Ruto on Sunday told the striking doctors that his government does not have money to meet their demands.

The president expressed concern over the inflated wage bill in the country, noting that it was taking a huge chunk of revenue.

He said the country needed money to fund development and other sectors, suggesting the doctors’ call for improved remuneration would not be met given the state’s many commitments.

“I’m telling our friends, the doctors; we mind about them and value their services to our nation, but we must live within our means. The resources we have are only sufficient to pay KSh 70,000 to interns. It is not a salary, but a stipend for only one year and then they will be employed,” said the president.
