In a notice on Tuesday, July 1, the ministry said the initiative is part of efforts to boost sustainable groundwater management in arid and semi-arid counties.

The scholarship aims to strengthen the capacity of professionals working in groundwater-related fields, further equipping them with knowledge required to address issues such as water scarcity, pollution control, and climate change resilience.

The scholarships will support master’s students from select institutions, namely the University of Nairobi (UoN), Kenyatta University (KU), and Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).

The ministry listed Master of Science in Geology, Master of Science in Applied Geophysics, Master of Science in Climate Change and Adaptation (UON), Master of Science in Environmental Governance, Master’s in Environmental Planning & Management and Master of Science in Civil Engineering (Water Engineering Option) as priority programs.

In terms of requirements, applicants must be Kenyan citizens aged 40 years or below and available for full-time study.

They must also hold at least an upper second-class bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and must meet university admission criteria for the master’s programs listed.

Further, the scholarship will cover tuition fees, research expenses, and administrative costs with a total of 20 scholarships will be awarded.
