Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen now says the government has commenced the implementation of the second phase of a ten per cent salary increase for police officers.
Addressing the residents of Nandi County on Thursday, July 24, the CS revealed that the increase was being undertaken in phases, with the first phase of the increase already complete.
He noted that the phased increase was in line with the budgetary adjustment for the current financial year 2025/2026 and the recommendations by the police task force.
Speaking while presiding over the Jukwa la Usalama forum, Murkomen called on police officers to exercise patience as the government continues to implement the increment.
While commenting on the matter, the Interior CS dismissed allegations that there was disquiet among police officers following the government’s initial promise of hiking their wages.
“Last year, a ten per cent increase was made for police officers who are in the lower cadre. This year, another ten per cent increase will be done,” Murkomen clarified.

‘Recently crossed into the new financial year, and the exchequer releases are still going on, so there is no need to worry. It will be implemented, and should there be an issue, the National Police Service Commission can do so,” he added.
During the forum, Murkomen noted that banditry remains a thorn in the flesh for residents living in the North Rift regions, but expressed the police service’s commitment to eradicating the menace.
He disclosed that the government was in the process of recovering between 5000 and 10,000 firearms that he claimed were in the possession of bandits.
“These bandits did ot only kill Father Alloys alone, they have also killed people in previous years, but in the past one month we have tried to manage the situation and there is progress,” the CS announced.
He added, “There are some of the bandits who have been arrested, while some have been killed during confrontation with our police officers. Others are still being pursued by the police.”
