Energy CS admits to have met the missing businesswoman, Ann Njeri who allegedly imported a Ksh17 billion oil consignment into the country from Turkey.

Chirchir revealed that the businesswoman, who disappeared moments after giving a statement at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters, came to his office five days after the consignment was detained by the authorities at the Mombasa port.

Speaking on Monday during a tree-planting exercise in Baringo County, Chirchir claimed that the Businesswoman insisted she was the legitimate owner and requested his help in having the shipment released.

According to Chirchir, the lady asked for his intervention in discharging the consignment, insisting that she was the rightful owner.

However, two companies, Galana Oil Kenya Limited and Ramco, also laid claim to the 100,000 metric tonnes of diesel.

The CS confirmed that he directed her to report the matter to the DCI headquarters, which would probe the matter.

“The matter is in court. The lady came to my office over the matter after the consignment was held at the port,” he stated.

“The consignment was brought in by a company called Galana and it has been discharged. So, we want to know the truth but the case is in court at the moment.”

Chirchir, nonetheless, diverted from addressing the businesswoman’s disappearance.

In addition, the Kenya Ports Authority has denied knowledge of the missing Ann Njeri Njoroge, who her lawyers claim imported 100,000 metric tonnes of diesel worth Sh17 billion into the country.

KPA chairman Benjamin Tayari and managing director Captain William Ruto on Monday said Ann Njeri forged documents to steal the fuel from the government.

“The consignees of the respective portions of the bulk cargo are listed in the manifest submitted by the ship’s agent and KPA confirms that Ann’s Import and Export Enterprises Limited is not one of the manifested consignees,” Tayari said.

“For fuel imports to Kenya, KPA and all other agencies involved are required to adhere to the existing Government-to-Government arrangement,” the statement read in part.

The controversial importation of the Ksh17 billion oil consignment attracted nationwide interest, with State Corporations questioning how the businesswoman acquired the money to import diesel of such an amount.

In the businesswoman’s defence, her lawyer Cliff Ombeta, claimed that the lady was in partnership with individuals who had permits to import oil.

The whereabouts of the businesswoman, who went missing on Sunday, remain unknown.

DCI is yet to release a statement on her interrogation and whether it is investigating her disappearance.
