Agriculture and Food Authority (AFA) has dismissed reports suggesting a ban on the export of fresh avocados, terming them as misleading.
In a statement released on Monday, July 7, AFA Director General Bruno Linyiru addressed growing concerns within the horticulture industry over rumors of a proposed ban on fresh avocado exports.
“Agriculture and Food Authority (AFA) note with great concern that misleading information is being circulated among the horticulture industry stakeholders and members of the public, that during the meeting a proposal to ban export of fresh Avocado was discussed, which is not true,” he said.
Linyiru noted that not only does Kenya have no plans to halt fresh avocado exports, it is actively pursuing strategies to boost its export volumes and expand market destinations.
