According to reports, the two forest guards were shot dead in the wee hours of Monday, June 3, after heavy gunshots were heard in Kapcherop, Marakwet West Sub County in Elgeyo Marakwet County.
Police reports revealed that there was a heavy fire exchange between a police officer and the forest guards at the Cherengany Forest Station.
The officer in question was part of the Border Patrol Unit based in Todonyang Camp in Turkana North Sub-County, Turkana County, and was armed with an AK47 rifle.
In the report, the chief revealed that he heard gunshots from the scene where two guards aged 22 and 20 years old were fatally shot dead.
Besides the two forest guards, one 24-year-old lady was also injured in the incident.
The bodies have been taken to the morgue and the other victim was rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment.
The report revealed that the female forest ranger was in stable condition after treatment at the local health center.

“He also shot a female forest ranger who sustained gunshot injuries on the upper right hand and the right side of the chest,” read part of the report.
Details of the suspect are to be disclosed.
Police officers who rushed to the scene recovered one AK47 rifle, 3 AK47 magazines, one empty and two loaded with different ammunition, and 17 spent cartridges.
However, the cause of the shootout is yet to be established.
Police, however, believe that this attack was due to an alleged love triangle Investigations are in progress.
“Scene processed and bodies taken to Moi Teaching & Referral Hospital (MTRH) mortuary awaiting autopsy,” read part of the police report.
