Government releases grade 10 student placement and reporting dates
Placement of the Grade 10 learners will take place over the next two weeks, with students set to report to their assigned schools next month
Placement of the Grade 10 learners will take place over the next two weeks, with students set to report to their assigned schools next month, Ministry of Education has announced.
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba revealed this while releasing the Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) results at Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) headquarters, Mtihani House on Thursday, December 11.
Ogamba said that learners can now access their results, with school selections and career pathways set to be released in a fortnight.
However, for the learners’ academic performance, teachers and parents were directed to access the KNEC portal: kjsea.knec.ac.ke/
Under the current Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), learners have been categorised under four career pathways, including STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), Social Sciences and Arts, and Sports Sciences.
According to Ogamba, of the 1,130,459 candidates who sat for the examinations, 59.09 per cent demonstrated the potential to pursue the STEM pathways at senior school.
He further noted that 46.25 per cent had demonstrated the capacity to pursue the Social Sciences, while 48.73 per cent had shown the capability to pursue the Arts and Sports Sciences pathway.

Ogamba added that the learners would be placed in their senior schools based on their performances and their selected pathways in line with the Presidential Working Party on Education Reforms.
During the presser, the CS revealed that the grade 9 learners would transition to the senior schools by January 12 next year, with the learners expected to receive their admission before the said date.
Ogamba noted that the placement portal would remain open for parents or teachers with concerns regarding the placement of the pathways to express their reservations.
“That space is available for the next two weeks, and even after they join in January, we will be able to keep it open so that every question and challenge is addressed and every learner taken care of,” the CS stated.
The CS revealed that the outcome of the learner’s performance was not merely a result slip but a comprehensive report showing how a student performed in the specific areas, their strengths and weaknesses.
Principal Secretary for Basic Education, Julius Bitok, also revealed that the Ministry adopted a similar system to that of revenue allocation to ensure fairness.
