The government has disclosed that Ksh14 billion school capitation funds released by the National Treasury will be sent to schools in due course.
In a statement on Thursday, January 30, government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura noted that schools banking with the Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) will begin receiving the funds on Thursday and the rest on Friday.
Mwaura further assured school principals that the outstanding balance in capitation for the first term will be released.
“The National Treasury on Wednesday released Ksh14 billion more towards the school capitation and will be disbursed by today to school accounts. KCB account holders will access it today and the rest by tomorrow.
“This is in addition to Ksh19 billion released last week. So far Ksh33 billion has now been released to Primary, Junior School (JSS) and Secondary School. We assure head teachers and principals that the balance of Ksh15 billion is still outstanding for this term and will be released in due course,” Mwaura remarked.

The release comes after school principals expressed concerns over delays in the release of the capitation funds for Term One.
On January 4, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba disclosed that the government will disburse Ksh48 billion in capitation to public schools.
Ogamba noted that in Term Two the schools will receive 30 percent of the funds and 20 percent in Term Three.
“The Ministry will disburse Kshs. 48,379,800,028.32, being 50% of the capitation due to schools this academic year. We are working with the National Treasury for the release of Exchequer to facilitate timely disbursement. In Term Two, schools will receive 30% of the capitation, while the balance of 20% will be disbursed in Term Three,” Ogamba explained.
