Kenyans in Diaspora set to enjoy new government services; access services through mobile consular services

Kenyans in Diaspora set to enjoy new government services; access services through mobile consular services.

The government announced plans to introduce an easier way for Kenyans living in the United States to access services through mobile consular services.

On Saturday, January 21, Roseline Njogu, the principal secretary for foreign affairs, made the announcement via her social media accounts.

“As promised, mobile consular services are coming to the Kenyan diaspora living in the US. Please register,” she announced.

She added that the government was planning to bring consular services to the Kenyans’ doorstep in February and March 2023.

The PS urged Kenyans living in Diaspora to register and inform the government of the services they would want.

Njogu sent a link to the registration form where Kenyans are required to enter their personal information,  including their current State of residence in the US.

“Please note that children’s consular services will be registered in a different form,” the PS advised.

Some of the services offered include new passport application, passport renewal, Kenya National ID application, birth certificate application, and authentications of documents.

In the application form, Kenyans have the option of indicating their field of profession. The four-step application process will allow the government to collect relevant information from all Kenyans living in the US.

Mobile consular services will include a consular officer moving from state to state and offering services to citizens.

In an effort to strengthen the economy of the nation, the administration has previously stated ambitions to raise the amount of money sent home by Kenyans who reside abroad.

The US continued to be the top source of remittances to Kenya in 2022, accounting for nearly 55,5 percent of all transfers in December, according to the WorldRemit report.

Living abroad, Kenyans overcame difficult economic conditions and managed to send Ksh497.2 billion home in 2022. This was an 8.3 percent increase over 2021.
