Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has refuted having any interest in landing a Cabinet Secretary job in the Kenya Kwanza government.

Speaking on Tuesday, after meeting Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, Natembeya clarified that the meeting between him and the CS was purely protocol, and he had no interest in working as a CS as he was committed to his course of serving the people.

”I’ve got no business joining the government in any capacity. I am an elected governor, and if you offer me a CS slot, what will that help me with? Nothing. I was employed there before, and the work I am focusing on now is serving the people who elected me,” Natembeya clarified.

The speculations gained momentum after the governor welcomed Interior CS Murkomen to his office despite the different ideologies the two leaders shared.

The meeting caused some to allege that Natembeya was shifting from his course of criticising the government. Other reports even alleged that the governor might be heading to the Kenya Kwanza side.

On Monday, July 28, Governor Natembeya met with Murkomen and granted him a warm welcome to his office. The CS was in Trans Nzoia for the 22nd Jukwaa La Usalama grassroots engagements.

Natembeya, however, clarified that the meeting did not mean that he was shifting from opposition.

”When a senior national government official visits the county, protocol requires that they pay a courtesy call to the Office of the Governor. As the sitting Governor of Trans Nzoia, I received CS Murkomen in line with this protocol,” Natembeya explained.

Natembeya has maintained that he remained fixed with his role in the opposition despite the challenges, scrutiny, apprehensions, and attacks they face as opposition leaders.

During his visit, Murkomen met with the county security team and assessed registration services at the ACC Central Division, Saboti Sub-County.

Other high-ranking government officials, including DIG-APS Gilbert Masengeli, Regional Police Commander Jasper Ombati, and Regional Administration Police Commander John Amadadi, accompanied the CS.

The courtesy call was given just days after Governor Natembeya returned to his Kitale headquarters on July 21 following the expiration of a two-month ban imposed by a Nairobi court.
