Governor Natembeya tells off Senator Cherargei: 'focus on your county'
Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has issued a sharp rebuke to Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei, urging him to focus on his county instead of meddling in Trans Nzoia’s affairs.
Speaking during an interview on NTV, Natembeya accused Cherargei of tarnishing his leadership and challenged him to bring order to his county, which he claimed is far from the picture of stability the senator purports.
”I don’t understand why a senator belonging to Nandi County is meddling in the affairs of Trans Nzoia. Let Cherargei focus on his county. We are aware that he and the governor are not seeing eye to eye. The other day he was grappling with Murkomen and they took each other to court,” the governor alleged.
Natembeya was responding to Cherargei’s allegations accusing him of being an ethnic leader and poking holes in his relationship with his deputy governor.
”As we speak, the governor and his deputy are not seeing eye to eye, things are going back to default setting and these are the effects of his tribal undertones, in six months, the governor will be out of that office,” Cherargei alleged.
According to Natembeya, the senator’s accusations are baseless and he had no grounds to accuse him.
Natembeya firmly dismissed claims of discord with his deputy, emphasising that his administration is the most inclusive and gender-balanced in all countries. He categorically refuted the tribal allegations, calling them baseless and divisive.
In a strong warning to Senator Cherargei, Natembeya cautioned against perpetuating tribal politics, labelling it a dangerous tactic that threatens national unity.

On the impeachment threats, Natembeya boldly challenged the senator to initiate the process to impeach him, revealing that he was not afraid of the threats. He, however, noted that impeaching him would not be easy since he maintains a cordial relationship with his MCAs.
“Impeachment was put there for a reason, not to intimidate, or to scare or to try to gag people. Don’t use impeachment for fun,” the governor warned.
Natembeya alleged that the brawl against him dates back to his time as the regional commander in Narok and the Rift Valley, when he was tasked with the responsibility of evicting people from the Mau Forest.
“I believe these leaders despise me because of my role in evicting people from the Mau Forest. They constantly called and threatened me to abandon the mission, but I stayed focused and delivered. Unfortunately, many of those evicted were from their communities, which is why they are targeting me now,” Natembeya alleged.
