Laikipia Governor Joshua Irungu’s bodyguard found dead after shooting himself in his rented house.

A bodyguard of Laikipia Governor Joshua Irungu was found dead in his rented apartment in Nanyuki town.

Preliminary reports say the bodyguard, who had been working with Governor Irungu died on the afternoon of Wednesday, January 29.

Laikipia East Police Commander John Tarus confirmed the incident to Nation, stating that the bodyguard had shot himself with his gun.

“The governor’s bodyguard indeed died after shooting himself through the mouth,” Tarus said.

Tarus said the exact details of the incident are still unclear, and investigations are underway.

Before his death, the bodyguard had taken a motorbike to his home and asked the rider to wait so they could return to Nanyuki town together.

Moments later, the boda rider heard gunshots from the bodyguard’s house and called the police, who arrived to find him already dead.

His body was later taken to the Nanyuki Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary for preservation, pending a postmortem.

The deceased is survived by a young family, including his wife and a three-month-old baby.
