Guardiola blames Real Madrid for Manchester City’s Champions League failure
Guardiola blames Real Madrid for Manchester City’s Champions League failure after failing to win the coveted trophy at Etihad.
There isn’t a team in the league that is more dominant than Real Madrid, which won the European Football Championship for the 14th consecutive season in May of this year.
Carlo Ancelotti’s team was touted as the underdog in the lead-up to every knockout game just a season ago.
The La Liga champions defeated Liverpool in the final as well, thanks to a masterful performance from Thibaut Courtois, to win the European championship.
Guardiola blames Real Madrid
Pep Guardiola has failed to win the Champions League trophy at Manchester City despite enormous success in the premier league.
Speaking after their goalless draw against FC Copenhagen last night, Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola was quizzed about why it is so difficult for his team to win the Champions League.
And he instantly pointed to the sense of inevitability about Los Merengues in the competition. “Because Real Madrid is always there,” he told Viaplay.
Since 2014, Real Madrid have won as many as five Champions League titles, including a hat-trick of triumphs under former manager Zinedine Zidane.
Although many people had doubts about Real Madrid’s chances of winning the competition, their unmatched reputation in Europe and the abundance of seasoned champions in their ranks set them apart from the competition.
In the end, there will be those who doubt the team’s chances of repeating its victory this year.
However, it would be advisable to be wary of Real Madrid, as Pep Guardiola is, as they remain the only team in Champions League history to complete an incredible three-peat.
