In a statement, Haitian Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé mourned the three soldiers, saying they died as heroes defending the country from gangs.
The Prime Minister noted that the soldiers are worthy sons of Haiti and that their sacrifice will not be forgotten.
“It is with deep sadness and deep emotion that the Government of the Republic announces the loss of three of our valiant soldiers, who fell this Sunday in Kenscoff in the exercise of their sacred duty. On the front lines, they faced danger with courage, determination, and honor. They fell as heroes, weapons in hand, defending the homeland they swore to protect,” said Fils-Aimé.
He continued, “These soldiers are not just members of our armed forces. They are worthy sons of the Nation, defenders of our sovereignty, whose ultimate sacrifice will never be forgotten. Their commitment is a powerful reminder that freedom and security come at a price, and that this price is sometimes paid in the blood of our bravest.”
The three soldiers were travelling in an unarmored pick-up when they a gang hiding in a high building opened surprise fire on their vehicle.
The soldiers were on the move to reinforce the Haitian National Police, which was clashing with members of the armed group known as Viv Ansanm.

Following the incident, the Multinational Security Support (MSS) officers and the Haitian National Police launched a manhunt for the gangs and left several of them with injuries.
The MSS mission, led by Kenya, was deployed in a bid to restore peace in the gang-stricken nation.
Kenya has so far deployed over 800 police officers to the Caribbean nation. Guatemala, El Salvador, Jamaica, and Belize have also deployed their troops to the peace mission.
Between February and March, two Kenyan police officers were reported killed while serving in Haiti.
The first officer, Samuel Tompoi Kaetuai, was fatally shot on February 23 by gangs in the Savien region of Haiti during a shootout.
The second officer, Bénédict Kabiru, was killed on March 25, following a gang ambush in Pont-Sondé, located in the Artibonite region.
