In a notice issued on Tuesday, September 9, HELB announced that the application deadline for first-time loan seekers has been pushed to September 14, 2025, providing additional time for eligible students to complete their funding applications.
According to the latest statistics released by the board, 1,150,578 students have submitted their applications for both undergraduate and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) loans as of September 9, 2025.
The data shows that undergraduate applications lead with 753,227 submissions, while TVET applications account for 397,351 of the total applications received.
HELB notified all loan applicants of the end-of-month submission deadline in mid-August.
The board had reported that by August 18, 2025, approximately 961,023 students had applied for funding, with the breakdown showing 660,560 undergraduate applications and 300,463 TVET applications.
The current figures represent a substantial increase of nearly 190,000 additional applications since the August update.

HELB’s deadline extension is part of the institution’s ongoing efforts to improve accessibility to its services nationwide.
The board has been working to ensure that all eligible students have an adequate opportunity to secure educational funding for the upcoming academic year.
To facilitate easier access to loan services, HELB had earlier released a comprehensive list of Huduma Centres serving HELB needs, allowing students to access loan services in person across various locations nationwide.
The designated service centers include major towns such as Nairobi-GPO, Machakos, Mombasa, Nakuru, Eldoret, Kisumu, Kakamega, Kisii, Nyeri, Embu, Kitui, and Bungoma, ensuring regional coverage across the country.
Additional service points have been established in Lodwar, Meru, Thika, Kitale, Kericho, Nandi, Murang’a, Garissa, Narok, Migori, Chuka, Kilifi, Taita Taveta, West Pokot, Bomet, and Makueni.
