Hold talks with former DP Rigathi Gachagua; Senator Khalwale tells Ruto and Raila

Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has urged President William Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to hold talks with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Speaking on Sunday, March 30, Khalwale noted that if President Ruto and Raila indeed want to unite the country, they should also accommodate Gachagua.

The UDA Senator went on to say the two leaders should sit Gachagua down and listen to his demands.

“If indeed we want to unite Kenyans, President Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, look for Rigathi Gachagua, sit him down, and listen to what he wants.

“We don’t want him to start spinning politics by saying that Kikuyus are being sidelined in Kenya’s agenda. We want Kikuyus to be treated just like Luhyas, Luos, Kalenjins and all Kenyans,” said Khalwale.

The Kakamega Senator’s remarks come ahead of President Ruto’s 5-day tour to Gachagua’s Mt Kenya backyard.

The Head of State is expected to visit Laikipia, Nyeri, Meru, Kirinyaga, Nyandarua, Murang’a, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi, and Kiambu counties.

Gachagua was removed from office on October 18, 2024, after the Senate upheld the impeachment done by the National Assembly.

The impeachment grounds listed in the motion tabled by Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse included gross violation of the constitution and undermining the President and the Cabinet, among others.

Following the impeachment, Gachagua was replaced by former Interior CS Kithure Kindiki.

On the other hand, Gachagua claimed that his ouster was a political witch hunt orchestrated by President Ruto and his allies.

The former DP has also been attacking Ruto, accusing him of being a liar and betraying the people of the Mt Kenya region.

“Ever since I was born, I have never seen a liar like Ruto. This guy looks you straight in the eye and lies without hesitation. Many people from home have blamed me, saying I’m the one who brought him to them,” Gachagua said on February 27.
