Houses destroyed after fire breaks out in two Nairobi estates

Over 20 houses were destroyed on Sunday night, October 13, after two separate fire incidents in Nairobi County.

In the first incident, fire broke out at Riverside Village in Viwandani, Nairobi, and affected 20 households.

Confirming the incident, the Kenya Red Cross Nairobi Branch disclosed that it deployed an emergency response team that later put out the fire with the help of the Nairobi City County Fire Brigade.

“A fire outbreak has been reported at Riverside Village in Viwandani, Nairobi County. Nairobi City County Fire Brigade and our community-based disaster response team (CBDRT) on scene.

“Fire has been contained by the Nairobi Fire Brigade alongside the Community-Based Disaster Response Team. Approximately 20 households have been affected,” Kenya Red Cross Nairobi Branch stated.

No causalities were reported following the incident.

In the other incident, the humanitarian organisation confirmed a fire incident at Shauri Moyo near Jua Kali junction in Nairobi.

Kenya Red Cross Nairobi Branch noted that the Nairobi City County Fire Brigade and the community-based emergency response teams were deployed to contain the fire.

At the time of publishing this story, the cause of the fire had not been determined and no causalities were reported.

The incidents come weeks after at least eight people were injured on Thursday night, September 19, following a deadly fire that consumed 160 homes at Muslim area in Kawangware, Nairobi.

Confirming the incident, the Kenya Red Cross disclosed that the fire was successfully contained with the help of the locals.

The humanitarian organisation further disclosed that it attended to the individuals who sustained injuries due to the inferno.
