I joined the government after Ruto, Uhuru, Raila talks; KRA chair Ndiritu Muriithi

KRA chair Ndiritu Muriithi says talks between President Ruto, his predecessor Uhuru Kenyatta, and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga played a big role in him joining the government
KRA chair Ndiritu Muriithi says talks between President Ruto, his predecessor Uhuru Kenyatta, and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga played a big role in him joining the government.
Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) chairman Ndiritu Muriithi has explained why he opted to join President William Ruto’s government despite having been a fierce critic as a member of the opposition party, Azimio.
Muriithi said that as a responsible leader, one cannot just sit and watch when things are going wrong in the country when they are in a position to offer assistance.
He insisted that sitting by and criticizing alone is not a solution.
The KRA boss noted that aside from deciding out of his conviction, talks between President Ruto, his predecessor Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga played a big role.
“President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga have been part of those conversations. I joined after conversations between the Party leader of Azimio and the President but of course, at a personal level, I joined out of my own conviction.
“I take the view that when the republic is having difficulties, as a leader, I don’t think we have the
luxury to stand aside and say we saw things going wrong. We have to step forward and offer service to the republic in this time of need. We cannot sit by and simply criticize,” Muriithi said on Citizen TV.
The former Laikipia Governor said that the reconstitution started by President William Ruto has seen several members of the opposition parties join his administration.

He said that it is also not a new thing in Kenya because it happened even during former President Mwai Kibaki’s administration.
In most instances, he said, it happens because of circumstances that need such reconstitution to make all Kenyans part and parcel of government.
“The President has been reconstituting government over the last several months. That reconstitution has involved bringing into government those of us who were part of the opposition. Our colleagues joined the government and in more recent times I and several other colleagues have joined the government.
“It is not unusual, you saw it during Mwai Kibaki’s government even in Kibaki one, where circumstances arise that make it imperative for the president and head of state to reconstitute government and bring as many different voices of people into government to allow Kenyans to feel represented and part and parcel of the governance of the republic. This is what happened,” Muriithi added.
