Ichung'wah fires back at Gachagua after Ol Kalou attacks

Majority Leader of the National Assembly and Kikuyu MP, Kimani Ichung’wah, has alleged that former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua sponsored violence that targeted his parents’ home and offices in Kikuyu constituency in June 2025.

Speaking on the floor of the national assembly on Thursday, April 9, Ichungwah stated that on the said date, organised groups were mobilised to burn his residence, his NG-CDF office, county government offices, law courts, and other national government facilities in Kikuyu.

He further claimed that the attackers attempted to harm his father, who was then 105 years old.

“On June 26, 2025, he organised goons who came and burnt our offices, the county government offices in Kikuyu. Our law courts and county government offices were burnt down,” he stated.

“They attempted to come and burn down my own home. That was the day he sent people to attempt to kill my father, who was then 105 years old,” the Kikuyu MP added.

It can be remembered that in June 2025, during the youthful protest against the 2025 Finance Bill, the Kiambu Court was burned down. Goons attacked Ichungwah’s offices, the MP now alleges, which were sent by Rigathi Gachagua.

During his statements in the assembly, Ichung’wah also dismissed claims made by Gachagua on Wednesday, April 8, during the funeral service of Ol Kalou MP David Kiaraho, where the former DP accused him of organising chaos at his rallies in Kikuyu constituency.

Ichung’wah termed the allegations as “reverse psychology,” questioning why he would orchestrate attacks against his own property and family.

During the funeral service on Wednesday, Gachagua accused Ichungwah of orchestrating chaos through hired goons at rallies organised by the opposition, especially in the Mount Kenya region.

The former DP also called on Wetang’ula for allowing MPs like Ichungwah to mention his name on the floor of the assembly without a substantive motion.

In response, Ichung’wah condemned Gachagua’s attack on Wetang’ula, accusing Gachagua of trying to incite the crowd against the speaker.

“He works with reverse psychology, Honourable Speaker. What he was trying to do to you yesterday was to try and incite the crowd to heckle you,” he added, calling MPs to uphold the dignity of the House and protect the Office of the Speaker from any form of attacks.

The two leaders were close allies when Gachagua was still the deputy president, but after his impeachment in 2024, the two became political enemies, with Gachagua accusing President William Ruto of using Ichung’wah to divide the Mount Kenya region.
