IEBC commissioners subjected Kenya to global ridicule; Azimio leader Raila Odinga
IEBC commissioners subjected Kenya to global ridicule for their differences over the presidential results according to Raila Odinga.
Speaking at his home in Karen on Saturday, 20, August in a meeting with members of the clergy, the Azimio leader said the fact that the IEBC commissioners were working together but could not agree is shameful.
“If those who were given the mandate to conduct election in our country can do such shameful acts, it shows our democracy is still far, and at this time people wouldn’t be celebrating on a winner,” Raila said.
“If the seven IEBC commissioners did not give a statement as one body, then that was a bad show in eyes of other countries.”
“We want peace in our country and that is why we went the legal way so that we can take the evidence that we have that the elections were not transparent and fair,” he said.
Raila was making reference to the four IEBC commissioners who disowned the presidential results announced by IEBC chair Wafula Chebukati.
He added that his team is preparing for the Supreme Court battle to challenge Ruto’s win and that it is through the legal means that the people of Kenya would get what they fought for since independence.
Present during the meeting was Jackson Ole Sapit, the Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) Bishop.
Sapit thanked Raila for seeking legal action through court together with his family and the entire Azimio fraternity, saying this had led to peace in the country.
“This is a family that stands for peace. They have decided to uphold peace by seeking justice through legal means. Let us all be patient as they seek justice through the courts,” Sapit stated.
