IEBC wins an award for the excellent procurement job done in the last August general elections, 2022.
On Friday, December 2, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) received a commendation for its “outstanding” oversight of the procurement procedures during the last year.
The commission placed third in the public procurement project of the year category at the Kenya Institute of Supply Management Awards, which were held at Carnivore Grounds.
According to a statement from the Commission, it was honored at the gala dinner for the Kenya Institute of Supply Management Awards.
“The Commission was feted for its excellent management of procurement processes in the last year,” read the statement in part.
Felix Koskei, the Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service, was the chief guest at the gala dinner.
“IEBC was awarded first runners-up in the Public Procurement Project of the Year,” the statement by the Commission continued.
The Kenya Institute of Supply Management Award gala dinner, according to its organizers, seeks to honor people and groups who exhibit the best supply chain management methods.
The accolade occurred in the midst of a conflict between President William Ruto and four of the seven election body commissioners, with opposition leader Raila Odinga standing up for the commissioners.
On Friday, February 2, Vice Chair Juliana Cherera, Commissioners Irene Masit, Justus Nyang’aya, and Francis Wanderi were all suspended by President Ruto.
In addition, the president established a tribunal to review a petition calling for their resignation in response to suggestions made by the National Assembly.
Since the four under-fire commissioners rejected the results announced by IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati following the polls on August 9, opposition leader and former prime minister Raila Odinga has been a staunch defender of the four commissioners.
